The song was the second single from the soundtrack Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance and was used on Apply It Up, which was the first episode from Shake It Up that aired in 2012. Musically, it's a dance-pop and house song with a predominant beat similar to a rhythmic pattern popularized with 1970s disco music known as "four-on-the-floor".

The music video was released on March 9, 2012 during an episode of Jessie. It features TTYLXOX by Bella Thorne, making a mash-up version. It was also released on YouTube and VEVO two hours after the original world premiere.
A short music video (which uses some parts of the mash-up music video and other previously unreleased shots) for Something To Dance For, also premiered on television on the Disney Channel. It is one minute long and does not show the full song.

Halfway through the song, she begins to introduce her band and dancers, and that's when she stops singing for the whole performance.
