Initally, James seemed arrogant, cocky and quite rude, looking down on CeCe and dismissing her as an idiot, based purely on his first impression of her. However after finding out that she got the same score as him on a test, it is revealed that he is a nice person at that. He also goes on to prove he's somewhat insecure when dealing with non-acedemic activities, has generally acedemic interests and has several personallity aspects like worrying unecessarily and being somewhat sarcastic, similar to CeCe. They also appear to think similiar as both tried to same tactic of having someone else coaching them on there second date.
Brain It Up: James is a student in CeCe's honor's history class and is doubtful of her ability to keep up with the class.
Opposites Attract It Up: James asks CeCe out on a date. He enlists Ty for help after Ty tells him that he isn't 'cool' enough for CeCe, but in the end, he decides that he and CeCe can have fun just being themselves.
Psych It Up: James breaks up with CeCe, because they are too different.
At first James did not like CeCe, but when he found out that she is actually smart he learned to like her.
When James asked CeCe out he didn't expect her to say yes.
